Financial Advice
For Real Estate Investors
About
Scott Jensen, CFP®
Financial Advisor
Hi, I’m Scott, the founder of Renovate Financial Planning, where we specialize in working with Real Estate Investors. I get to wake up every day excited to get to work because I combined the career I love (financial planning) with my hobby, side-gig of real estate investing! It’s hard as a Real Estate Investor to find an advisor who understands real estate or who won’t advise you against it! As a Real Estate Investor myself and an avid researcher on all things real estate and financial planning, I am here to help you reach all your financial and real estate goals.
When I’m not meeting with clients, nerding out on real estate or researching tax strategies for financial planning, I can be found adventuring outside with my wife and three daughters or by the fireplace drinking coffee.
If you would like to know more about Renovate Financial Planning and how we could help you, please reach out! We would love to have a free phone consultation with you to see if we would be a good fit!
Katie Jensen
Operations Manager
Katie helped make the dream of Renovate Financial Planning come to life with her attention to detail and adventurous spirit. Together, along with our three children, we stepped out of the conventional nine to fives and became entrepreneurs, first in Real Estate and then with Renovate Financial Planning. Katie continues to use her skills to manage our rental properties, support our clients as the Operations Manager, and be a rockstar mom and teacher to our daughters.
Katie enjoys working in a quiet house, spending time with our loud and adventurous family, traveling, and high ropes courses at camps!
Renovate Financial Planning clients generally have three things in common.
They want expert professional guidance.
They invest in real estate and the stock market.
They appreciate long term planning.
Philosophy
Real Estate Investing and Stock Market Investing are a winning combination
Most investors and financial advisors focus on the wrong things
Successful people delegate
Actively managed stock market investing under-performs passive index funds
The value is in the planning
Financial Advisors should be fiduciaries with transparent fees
Comprehensive Financial Planning
Financial Planning is an ongoing process, not a one time event. Generally we have a review meeting two times per year. One meeting is before the end of the year and one meeting is before the April 15th tax filing deadline. If there’s a significant life event such as retirement, job loss, or an inheritance we can schedule another meeting.
In each meeting we will review and update the financial plan, take care of any pressing items, and then take a deeper dive into one or two of the “7 Areas of Planning”.
7 Areas of Planning
Goals and Priorities
Cash Flow, Savings and Debt
Personal Capital - Education, Employment, and Business
Financial Capital - Real Estate and Stock Market Investing
Risk Management - Insurance
Estate Planning and Charitable Giving
Tax Planning
Pricing
Fee Transparency is extremely important. You should always know what your advisor gets paid, how your advisor gets paid, and who is paying them.
As a Fee-Only Financial Advisor, all of my revenue is comes from financial planning and investment management fees my clients pay.
I receive no commissions or fees from any insurance or investment company for selling you a specific product. This means the investments and insurance I recommend are chosen simply because I believe they are the absolute best for you. I also do not receive any referral fees for referring you to a specific professional (Insurance agent, attorney, etc).
I charge an annual fee of 1% of the first million and 0.6% of any amounts above a million of any investments I manage. I do not require a minimum investment amount but I do charge a minimum fee that varies based on the complexity of a client’s situation. The minimum annual fee starts at $6,000 for all new clients.
